TV and Movies and Music -- Oh my!

TV Thoughts

Gilmore Girls

Much, much, much, much better than last week's!!

I gots to say, I kinda figured out the whole Lane pregnancy thing whenever Zack first mentioned her having the "parasite". But I thought the whole thing was hilarious, especially whenever she said she was never having sex again and how evil it was.

The whole Lorelai and Luke thing was sad. I want them to make up, but it doesn't look like that'll happen any time soon.

Next week, it looks like Christopher is professing his undying love for Lorelai. Anyone who didn't see it coming needs to rewatch every episode leading up to this point.

I can only imagine what Lorelai will say. Yay or nay -- it doesn't matter. Both will have a major impact in her life and either way, I think she'll end up with Luke when it's all said and done.

Smallville

I was rather disappointed and I hate to say that, because it's my favourite show.

The biggest disappointment for me, unlike a lot of people, was how Lex handled the Lana/cameras situation. He should've explained to her in more detailed why he was doing it and not been so pissy about it. He was very un-Lex that episode, I thought. Which doesn't surprise me, because every time there's a future Justice League member (other than Clarkie, of course) on, he turns into Fake!Lex...which is much more comic-y and two-dimensional than the Lex we usually see on Smallville. (Just look at the episodes "Aqua" and "Cyborg" to see what I'm rambling about.)

Also, I was disappointed with the whole Green Arrow plot. It harkened back to Aqua, which is ironic because Justin Hartley, who plays the Green Arrow, played Arthur Curry (aka Aquaman)in the failed (which I'm still pissed about) Aquaman pilot.

Now, I was very excited that they had Hartley on the show, because I'd seen him on Passions and liked his work on that. And I still think Hartley is a good actor overall, but something about the Green Arrow last night seemed stale. I don't think it was Hartley's fault, entirely, but instead that Oliver Queen seemed to be like a pale reflection of Lex almost in the little bit that we saw him. Which is what Willow pointed out in the "Sneeze" thread in the Dark Passage forums.

My favourite aspect of the show besides the anecdotal Chlarkois (lol!) moments, was the fact that Lana continued to display the strength that's been growing for the past season. She's no longer the girl who runs to Clark to save her (or Lex). She's tapped into a power that's been inside her all along -- a trait that Lex brought out in her, I (and many Lexana fans the world over) believe.

News

More about the border.

Throughout history, people have built walls to keep other people out. See Hadrian's Wall, the Great Wall of China, and the Berlin Wall.

What do all of those walls have in common today other than the fact that they are -- well -- walls? They're all now defunct, the Berlin wall being affective for the shortest duration.

Call me cynical but A) people are going to get in whether there's a wall or not and B) why are we preparing to spend billions of dollars on something that may be torn down in a few generations time?

In other news, Austrian man Franz Riedl was found mummified in his apartment.

I just wanna know why it took them at least five years after the fact to get a court order. That poor man. =/

Music

A Lesson in Learning

Why you should listen: Not only is he my brother, but he's one of the best acoustic talents out there. With soulful, deep lyrics, and catchy tunes, his music has captured fans from the Shoals, to Chicago, and beyond. You definitely nead to hear this kid.

The Sounds

Why you should listen: Their New Wave beats are strong and catchy, and their lyrics are fun.

I first read about them in a magazine (can't remember which one, presently)and thought I'd check them out. I was not disappointed; I highly recommend: "Queen of Apology" and "Teenage Battlefield".

Sahara Hotnights

Why you should listen: Unlike most rock bands I hear these days, these
chicks actually rock. 'nuff said.

Movie I Want to See

I really want to see Marie Antionette.

From the clip on the Marie Antionette myspace, not only does it seem they were true to the queen's story (not once do you hear the phrase "let them eat cake!"), but they also appear to be using accurate costumes for the period. You can see a change from the early years (c.1770's) where she's wearing the then-formal panier à coudes and very tall, elaborate hair, to the later years around the time of the Revolution(c. late 1780's/early 1790's) when she's wearing higher waistlines wrapped with a sash, narrower skirts, long sleeves, and shorter, carefree/tousled hair.

Entertainment News

I was informed two hours too late by the local newspaper the other day that Stephen Colbert's crew was in town filming a skit. This is because we live in Colbert County.

I completely missed it. I only know vaguely what the skit involves, but apparently you'll be able to see it in a few weeks. Anyone who knows when it'll be on: let me know.

Random Personal Stuff

I got woken up this morning by the dumbest thing ever. It went by in a whirlwind, over before I really registered it began, and left me shocked and pissed. But I won't back down.

Current mood: tired, angry, curfuzzed, befuddled, annoyed, and everything in between.

I need food chocolate.
