Another One of My Myspace Rants: "Talking"

The below is a rant I typed up on a myspace bulletin, and I just thought I'd share it here, because I make good points, if I do say so myself.

--------------------------

I'm not *talking* to any of you. By that, I mean that we're not getting to know each other better for the purpose of eventually going out. It's just not happening, for loads of reasons.

Reasons:

1. It's archaic. I feel like I'm being reserved for something. It's like in Pride and Prejudice when Mr. Collins is all like "May I be so bold as to claim the next *two* dances?" And I'm here thinking "wtf?" because all Elizabeth wants to do is see Mr. Darcy anyways.

2. You're all sneaky about it. News flash: I talk to EVERYONE who messages me (unless they're instantly dumb/psychotic). But I don't *talk* to all the guys. In fact, I don't *talk* to any of them, as I don't have to rely on myspace to get me dates, if I want them.

3. Why would I *talk* to someone I don't even know, putting myself essentially on reserve for them...when A) I don't know them, B) They're most likely not my type, and C) They're sometimes crazy as all get out.

I get these sorts of messages SEVERAL times a day. Seriously. I don't know why. There are tons of pretty girls on myspace, yet I seem to be the only one so pestered.

And there seems to be this ridiculous assumption that if I messaged you back, it's because I want you to want me. But au contrere. If I message you, it's merely because I want to tell you something. It's elegant in its simplicity, really.

Whatever happened to speaking to the opposite sex amicably? I think it's a dying art.
